WARNING: If you are not going through an intense break-up, Keyshia Coles “Just Like You” album is just NOT for you. It sincerely is the “Shoulda Let You Go”, “Was It Worth It”, “Got to Get My Heart Back” break-up album of the year, hence the song titles.

There’s no better time to record an album than when life has put you through an emotional rollercoaster, whether it be up or down. And in Keyshia’s case it was down, as she was dealing with breaking off an engagement to a man she was with for a year and a half. To add to her sorrow her ex-fiance had a 10 year old child whom she had become very attached to.

“I was scared. When you get married, you become one; you don’t live just for yourself anymore. I’m just not ready for that. I’m not done with my goals in life. What’s the word when you just kind of fall back and let your man do the man thing? Submit? I’m all jacked up on that word. I just couldn’t submit. But I loved him. That’s the crazy thing about it”, as told to Essence Magazine by Keyshia Cole.

Being a fan of Keyshia I was ready to play this album out yet half way through I realized that I couldn’t relate to anything she was singing about. Why not? Well probably because I’m living a fairytale life, with the love of my life. Yet if I was going through a bad break-up I would have two copies of “Just Like You”, one for the house and another in the car. You travel through every phase of her heartache; from “Heaven Sent” where you want that ex to believe you were the one you that was sent from Heaven, to the emotion that has you wondering “Was it Worth It”.

So would I recommend you buy the Keyshia Cole’s “Just Like You”, instead of burning it? Yes, of course, you have to support a woman that’s just gone through what she has. Regardless, you can always give it to someone that you know is experiencing heartache. I give it a 4 out of 5.
